New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says he and legislative leaders have agreed to a jobs program that would offer tax-free zones to new employers.
But Cuomo says he isn't sure how many of his 10 women's rights measures will be passed in the Senate, or if the abortion piece of the package will even reach the floor.
Cuomo has hoped that many of the elements, including combating workplace inequities and discrimination, would become law in these closing days of session.
The economic development program would free new employers and their employees from paying business or income taxes for 10 years, with the hope the jobs remain after the decade.
The leaders also agreed Wednesday to privatize daily operation of the Long Island Power Authority. Cuomo says LIPA failed Long Islanders during Superstorm Sandy.
