NY Ethics Board Expected to Take Sexual Harassment Case

New York's Joint Commission on Public Ethics is scheduled to meet in special session to take on a sexual harassment case that has roiled Albany.

Although the agenda hasn't been released, the board is expected to consider the private $103,000 settlement by Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver in June to end sexual harassment charges against Assemblyman Vito Lopez.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo had suggested JCOPE review the scandal, which dominated Albany a week ago.

Silver says he won't authorize another private settlement because it conflicts with transparency needed in government.

The private settlement surfaced after Lopez was censured Aug. 24 by the Assembly ethics committee for separate sexual harassment accusations.
