Prosecutor Drops Charges against Occupy Protesters

Albany, NY – As promised, Albany County District Attorney David Soares' office has dismissed charges lodged by state police against Occupy Albany protesters who challenged a curfew in a state-owned park across from the Capitol. WAMC's Tristan O'Neill reports...

Soares has maintained since the protest began that he wouldn't prosecute protesters as long as they remained peaceful. The city has allowed protesters to camp for the past month in a city-owned park, but Governor Andrew Cuomo has had them arrested if they violate the 11 p.m. curfew on state land nearby.

State police say they have arrested more than 120 people on trespassing and disorderly conduct charges since the Occupy Albany demonstrators set up an encampment in city-owned Academy Park last month. Charges were dropped for the first 12 when they appeared in City Court on Monday.
