Halfmoon, NY – A major announcement was made today in Saratoga County concerning a new solar energy initiative - WAMC's Dave Lucas reports.

Congressman Chris Gibson was joined by UAlbany's College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering Senior Vice President and CEO Alain Kaloyeros to announce the launch of CNSE's Solar Development Center in the Town of Halfmoon. Gibson says existing jobs will be retained while new opportunities are created to grow a high-tech workforce and expand CNSE's green energy initiative. CNSE is now managing and operating the former Ceeco facility at 13 Corporate Drive inside the Capital Region Business Park - which will now provide what is described as "a pilot line for proof-of-concept prototyping."

Congressman Gibson said the announcement continues the region's growth as the next place for 21st Century Technology - he added that he hopes to see the developing technology put to use in military and defense applications. NYSERDA's Janet Joseph says the Albany Nanotech clearly understands what it takes to grow an innovation economy. The CNSE project in Halfmoon joins a growing list of solar and other renewable energy-oriented business initiatives that have been springing up throughout the Hudson Valley.
