The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Tuesday that Ohio accepted 25% more waste-water from out-of-state drillers in the first quarter of 2011.
Much of Pennsylvania has been opened up to drilling companies, who are looking to extract natural gas from the Marcellus Shale. The paper reports that more haulers are registering to carry shipments into Ohio, and that one developer is considering building a rail line covering several hundred miles.
Pennsylvania has tried to crack down on the disposal of waste-water. This year, state officials told drilling companies to stop taking the waste-water to treatment plants, leaving companies to search for other disposal methods.
