Albany, NY – Well Cam Newton has completed his personal Triple Crown: national champion, Heisman Trophy, and now... the number one overall pick in the NFL draft.

In New York last night, the Carolina Panthers took Newton with the top pick they earned after suffering through a 2-14 season last year.

Rounding out the top five picks: Denver selected Texas A&M linebacker Von Miller, Buffalo took Alabama defensive tackle Marcell Darius, Cincinnati drafted Georgia wide-out A.J. Green, and Arizona took LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson.

At 17, New England drafted Colorado offensive tackle Nate Solder. At 19, the Giants took Nebraska cornerback Prince Amukamara. And at 30, the Jets selected Temple defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson. The NFL draft continues with rounds two through seven today and Saturday.

To the NBA playoffs... In Atlanta, Joe Johnson dropped in 23 points, as the Hawks eliminated Orlando last night 84-81. Atlanta will take on Chicago in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

In New Orleans, Kobe Bryant's 24 points helped the Lakers knockout the Hornets 98-80.

And in Portland, Dirk Nowitzki netted 33, as Dallas KO'd the Trailblazers 103-96. The Mavericks and Lakers will square off in the Western Conference semis.

To the ice... In Vancouver, Roberto Luongo stopped all 20 shots he faced, as the Canucks blanked Nashville 1-0 in the opener of the Western Conference Semifinals.

To baseball... In the AL, Tampa Bay swept a doubleheader from Minnesota 15-3 and 6-1, Cleveland dumped Kansas City 8-2, the Yankees whipped the White Sox 12-3, Boston beat Baltimore 6-2, Seattle sank Detroit 7-2, and Toronto topped Texas 5-2.

Over to the NL, San Francisco got by Pittsburgh 5-2, Washington edged the Mets 4-3, St. Louis outlasted Houston 11-7, and Arizona blitzed the Cubs 11-2.
