Albany, NY – The state Office of General Services has kicked off the annual special tours of the Capitol that will explore the legends, folklore and "ghost stories" connected to the building.

If you're looking for spirits, the State Capitol Building in Albany, with its medieval-style architecture, is a great place to start. The "Capitol Hauntings Tours" are free and open to the public, Dressed in 1890's style, Stuart Lehman serves as tour guide.

There have been a number of tragic deaths in the building - Visitors will hear stories about the 1911 fire that killed the Capitol's night watchman Samuel Abbott. State employees working late swear they've heard the jingling of a watchman's keys and felt paranormal "cold spots" in some rooms, while snapshots have revealed mysterious orbs, invisible to the naked eye. There's also the legend of the "Secret Demon" near the Great Western Staircase.

One fascinating bit of information you'll pick up on the tour: it was in Albany where US President Abraham Lincoln first crossed paths with the man who later would be his assassin, John Wilkes Booth.
