Saratoga Springs, NY – The New York State Conference of Mayors is holding 100th Annual Meeting in Saratoga Springs this week...Capital District Bureau Chief Dave Lucas reports

NYCOM welcomed Governor David Paterson this morning at the Saratoga Hilton. In his remarks, Paterson said the fiscal and economic crisis impacting the state is compounded by the governance crisis.

NYCOM is disappointed with Paterson's recent decision to sign the local government consolidation bill. The organization believes the legislation is a distraction: that it will NOT reach its goal of providing tax relief or reduction in local governments. The mayors are hoping to work with the Governor to amend the law prior to its effective date.

NYCOM's Annual Meeting is designed to assist local officials with the many challenges of local government and provide strategies to create a thriving community in tight fiscal times.

Urging unity, Governor Paterson told the Mayors it is VERY important that members of government, public service and leadership in the civic world focus on the state's immediate problems, rather than focusing on personal ones.
