Albany, NY – A UALBANY STUDENT HAS DIED AFTER BEING SHOT ON A CITY STREET. WAMC'S DAVE LUCAS HAS DETAILS

A SUNY Albany student from Long Island has died at Albany Medical Center after being shot while walking on an off-campus street. The student, a senior in his twenties, was taken off life support and pronounced dead about 1:00 this afternoon, according to a spokesman for the Albany Police Department. Earlier Long Island Newsday reported the boy was "brain dead" and that his family had travelled to Albany be with him.

Gannett News Service has identified the victim as Richard Bailey of Nassau County.

Detectives are looking into WHY Bailey was shot. He was walking alone last night around 11:20 on South Lake Avenue and Yates Street, when he was hit once with a bullet.
