Burlington, Vermont officials are expressing concern about the first wastewater coronavirus test results since the Thanksgiving holiday.

The readings from Burlington’s COVID-19 Wastewater Monitoring Program are based on one sampling taken at each of the city’s three wastewater treatment plants after Thanksgiving.

All three readings show a significant spike of the COVID-19 marker.

Wastewater can indicate the presence of the virus up to seven days ahead of conventional testing.

Mayor Miro Weinberger is asking residents to cease social gatherings outside of households and to get tested if you have attended a social gathering in the last week.

Additional sampling of the wastewater is planned.
