The Vermont Department of Labor is alerting residents about a phishing scam.

Phishing is an email scam that mimics actual businesses and agencies in an effort to obtain personal information.

The Vermont Department of Labor warns there have been multiple reports related to unemployment insurance benefits.  The email claims the department will pay eligible workers $3,750 in COVID benefits and compensation and offers a link to register and apply.

The agency is working with law enforcement and security teams to trace the fraudulent emails.
