With Updated Guidance, Massachusetts Urges More Schools To Offer In-Person Classes

     Education officials in Massachusetts today said school districts should make in-person learning a priority even in places where risk levels are high for community spread of COVID-19.

    The Springfield Public Schools have been fully remote since the new school year started in September.   The School Committee was planning to make a decision on reopening school buildings for in-person learning at a meeting on Nov 12th   But, first school officials want to hold a multi-lingual virtual town hall.

    WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Springfield School Committee Vice-Chairman Chris Collins.

Paul has won more than two dozen Associated Press Broadcast Awards. He won an Edward R. Murrow award for reporting on veterans’ healthcare for WAMC in 2011. Born and raised in western New York, Paul did his first radio reporting while he was a student at the University of Rochester.
