/
City of Springfield

A program is being launched that targets youth homelessness in the most populous county in western Massachusetts.

Funded by a $2.4 million federal grant, the program is designed to help people in Hampden County under the age of 24 avoid becoming homeless by providing social services, stable housing, and education and employment opportunities.

   There is a 24-hour helpline: 413-316-4979

WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Gerry McCafferty, the director of the city of Springfield’s Office of Housing.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
