Burlington Protesters End Encampment

Protesters who have been camping out for five weeks across the street from the Burlington Police Department, calling for the firing of three officers, have ended their encampment.
The protesters held a “Farewell Party” Wednesday night and most packed up their tents and left Battery Park.  WCAX reports that the group plans to continue protesting in Burlington and holding police accountable but will no longer be camping.  A march is planned Saturday.

One of the three officers, Sgt. Jason Bellavance, is leaving the police department by Oct. 5 in a separation agreement with city, which the protesters called “the direct result of the power of the people.” The city is not seeking separation agreements against the two other officers.
