Voters across Massachusetts are going to the polls for primary day today.
WAMC caught up with Ward 5 Pittsfield City Councilor Patrick Kavey holding a sign for Congressional candidate and Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse Tuesday afternoon. Outside of his ward’s polling location – the Berkshire Athenaeum – Kavey said he’d been out at the polls since 7 a.m.
“We’re actually seeing a pretty good turnout," he told WAMC. "A lot of people have still been taking advantage of voting in person. Obviously, not as many as we’d expect normally, due to the circumstances. We’ve had a lot of mail-in ballots head back to the city. So I think our turnout’s going to be very high based on what I’ve seen today at this polling location. I’ve already been at 4. I’ve been at 3A for a little bit. And people are definitely here to vote.”
Morse is running against Congressman Richard Neal in the Democratic primary. There is also a high-profile Democratic primary pitting Senator Ed Markey against Congressman Joe Kennedy III. Polls close at 8.
