Great Barrington To Hold Drive-In Town Meeting Tonight

The Great Barrington Town Seal
Town Of Great Barrington

Tonight’s annual town meeting in Great Barrington, Massachusetts will have a unique format: drive-in style.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the yearly gathering will take place in the parking lot of Monument Mountain Regional High School.

“So it’s kind of analogous to a drive-in movie theater," said Town selectboard chair Steve Bannon. "It’ll be broadcast on a low frequency FM radio and the moderator, the selectboard finance committee, and town officials will be standing on a grass strip, and everyone else will be in their car.”

Votes will be cast by waving strips of paper, much like in traditional town meetings. Residents will decide on essential financial articles, including the operating, capital, and school district budgets. Citizen petitions will be addressed at a second special town meeting later this summer. The meeting begins at 6 p.m.
