The Vermont House has given preliminary approval to legislation that sets requirements and deadlines for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the state to the Senate.
The Global Warming Solutions Act was approved on a 105 to 37 vote.

The bill would require that by 2025 Vermont reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 26% below the 2005 amount and 80% below by 2050.

VTDigger reports that the state has failed to miss voluntary goals and under the new legislation missing such targets could result in lawsuits.

H.688 must also be approved by the state Senate.
