The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center in Great Barrington, Massachusetts has named an acting executive director.

Beryl Jolly is leaving as executive director at the end of the 2019 after 15 years.

Janis Martinson – formerly the arts nonprofit’s Director of Advancement – will step into the role. Martinson says it’s the Mahaiwe’s first leadership change.

“It’s such a strong organization. There’s a tremendous team internally of people who are very experienced and very dedicated to the mission. We have a very strong board. Financially, we have no debt, which is unusual for a 15-year-old organization, and we actually have enough of a reserve to manage our cash flow.”

Prior to the Mahaiwe, Martinson worked in the advancement offices of Lesley University in Cambridge and Miss Hall’s School in Pittsfield.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018 after working at stations including WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Berkshire County, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. You can reach him at jlandes@wamc.org with questions, tips, and/or feedback.
