Fallout continues from a legislative oversight hearing this week that revealed officials at the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles knew for years that out-of-state citations were not being processed.
One lawmaker on the Joint Committee on Transportation, Democratic State Senator Eric Lesser of Longmeadow has called for the resignation of Thomas Bowes, the official in charge of the RMV division responsible for reviewing the out-of-state notices.
"He needs to go in order to restore some public confidence and some sense of accountability in what is clearly a highly dysfunctional system," said Lesser.
Bowes testified he lacked the staff to process the notices.
The backlog came to light following the June crash in New Hampshire that killed seven motorcyclists. The Massachusetts man charged with causing the deaths had a valid license despite an arrest weeks earlier in Connecticut for drunk driving.
