Berkshire United Way is preparing to allocate over $1.2 million to 42 community programs around the county. Director of Community Impact Karen Vogel spoke with WAMC about how the nonprofit determines how to direct the charitable contributions it collects. Vogel says the goal is supporting on-the-ground efforts to promote economic prosperity and early childhood positive youth development.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018 after working at stations including WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Berkshire County, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. You can reach him at jlandes@wamc.org with questions, tips, and/or feedback.
