A landslide has caused the closure of a section of a road and a trail in a recreation area in Waterbury, Vermont.
The Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation says a portion of the Cotton Brook Road and all of the Fosters Trail in the Mount Mansfield State Forest have been closed until further notice due to "a significant landslide" that occurred on Friday.

Officials say they are assessing the situation to determine the extent of damage and whether conditions have stabilized.

The department says visitors can still access the recreation area from the Cotton Brook parking area in Stowe, but are urged to use caution and abide by closures because dangerous conditions remain.

Signs near the parking area mark the closures.
