Vermont Department Of Labor Investigating Fraudulent Claims

A top official at the Vermont Department of Labor says money was paid out after someone gained unauthorized access to the state's Unemployment Insurance Claimant Portal system.
Deputy Commissioner Michael Harrington wouldn't say Monday how much money was lost, but the intended recipients have received the money due to them.

The state says an initial review says personal information was used to gain unauthorized access to the system.

Police are investigating.

It is believed the situation is limited to individuals with active unemployment claims. The people whose accounts were affected have been notified.

The state Agency of Digital Services has added additional security measures and monitoring of accounts.

People who use the unemployment claim system are being asked to monitor their accounts.
