First Recreational Pot Sales In Berkshires To Begin Friday

Having cleared its final hurdle with the state of Massachusetts, a Great Barrington medical marijuana business plans to begin selling recreational pot to adults 21 and over on Friday.

On Monday, Theory Wellness – located on Route 7 just north of downtown Great Barrington – received permission from the Cannabis Control Commission to begin sales of recreational pot. After a mandatory 72-hour waiting period, it will open its doors Friday to a brand new audience. CEO Brandon Pollock says the company has been preparing for the big day with the town for weeks.

“We will have several police officers and cruisers in various areas around the dispensary and the adjacent parking lots to help direct traffic," he told WAMC.

Pollock says the business has hired around 15 to 20 additional employees in advance of recreational sales, and says he expects between 500 to 1,000 customers on the first day.
