Massachusetts State Senate President Karen Spilka.

The president of the Massachusetts Senate will be in Pittsfield Friday morning for a pair of meetings.

Karen Spilka, a Democrat from the 2nd Middlesex and Norfolk district, will be hosted by State Senator Adam Hinds as she visits the seat of Berkshire County. The first of two meetings will take place at the Joseph Scelsi Intermodal Transportation Center as she discusses transporation issues in the county, from Hinds’ passion project, the Berkshire Flyer, to the county’s regional transit authority’s needs and more. The second meeting will be at the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission’s Fenn Street offices to discuss measures to combat the opioid epidemic in westernmost county in the state.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
