Uncertain Future For Springfield Symphony Hall/CityStage As Long Time Management Group Bows Out

A major shakeup in the entertainment and cultural landscape of western Massachusetts was announced today.

Springfield Performing Arts Development Corporation said it will stop managing Springfield Symphony Hall and CityStage at the end of this year.

The nonprofit has run the two venues since 1998.

WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with the organization’s president Tina D’Agostino.

The Springfield City Council is scheduled to vote tonight to authorize the city administration to enter into a contract that is longer than 3 years to manage Symphony Hall.

The Springfield Parking Authority board meets later this month to discuss putting out a new bid to manage CityStage.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
