Demolition Complete For Burlington Redevelopment Project

The demolition phase of a redevelopment project in the downtown of Vermont's largest city is done and constructions crews are ready to move on to the excavation phase.

The demolition of a portion of Burlington's downtown mall was delayed by more than a month after a 30-million-pound miscalculation on how long it would take to remove 100 million pounds of material, mostly concrete.

CityPlace Burlington developer Don Sinex tells the Burlington Free Press about 94.5 percent of the material was recycled. Much of the concrete was used as road bed filler while the glass, aluminum and scrap iron was re-smelted into new material.

The $225 million redevelopment will feature office space, apartments and retail. The retail portion of the project is expected to open in the fall of 2019.
