Registration For Classes To Begin At Springfield Casino School
Details will be announced Wednesday about a new gaming school to train people interested in working at the soon-to-open MGM Springfield casino.
Springfield Technical Community College and Holyoke Community College will operate the school which will have programs to train people to run six different types of casino table games, including blackjack, poker, and craps.
MGM Springfield President Mike Mathis said the school is modeled after one set up in Maryland prior to the opening of the National Harbor casino in 2016.
"We are just following in their steps. They've already established a playbook there to work with local community colleges for training of gaming dealers and different professionals," said Mathis.
A press release said students who complete training for at least two different table games will be guaranteed a tryout to work at the MGM casino that is expected to open in September 2018.
