The solar array recently installed at Williamstown, Massachusetts landfill is showing results.
In early November, the landfill solar installation in Williamstown went live, providing power to the town’s municipal buildings and fire district, streetlights, and Mount Greylock Regional School District.
The 19-megawatt array’s output is roughly 31,000 kilowatt-hours. That’s enough to offset 2,700 gallons of gasoline.
In 2014, Williams College helped finance the construction of the project, and has paid for necessary upgrades to National Grid to make the connection possible.
The solar array is expected to yield at least $5 million in electricity savings and renewable energy tax credits over the next 20 years.
