Kinder Morgan's Pipeline Expansion Is A Likely Topic At Connecticut DEEP's Public Hearing

Sugar Shack Alliance

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is holding a public hearing in Torrington next week about its draft Comprehensive Energy Strategy. Kinder Morgan’s natural gas pipeline expansion is likely to come up.

Opponents of the Connecticut expansion project into Western Massachusetts are expected to speak at the public hearing in Torrington on August 29th.

According to the department’s draft plan, Connecticut will not reach its carbon reduction goals at current rates.

Advocates say the plan should do more to accelerate clean energy requirements, end subsidies for heating homes with gas, expand energy efficiency policies, and invest in electric transportation and heating.

The strategy will also refine a policy detailing the state’s need for the natural gas pipeline expansion.
