Taconic High School Evacuated, Up In Smoke

http://taconic.pittsfield.net/

Taconic High School in Pittsfield was evacuated Wednesday morning after a ventilation system failed and smoke filled a wing of the facility.

A malfunction in the aging ventilation system at the roughly 50-year-old Taconic High School filled the west wing with thick, black smoke.

Roughly 700 students and 120 staffers were sent home late Wednesday morning.

The Pittsfield Fire Department ventilated the building, which will be demolished as part of a $121 million project to build a new school. The Berkshire Eagle reports there were no injuries.

The evacuation and early dismissal alerts were sent to parents via email and text message.

Classes resumed Thursday.
