Massachusetts leadership granted about $750,000 total to fund clean energy projects to the City of North Adams, Clarksburg, Erving, Hawley and Plainfield.

Earlier this year, 30 Massachusetts cities and towns were designated by the Department of Energy Resources as Green Communities.

The department is pushing renewable energy for the entire state in an effort to reduce energy consumption and emissions. More than half of the state's municipalities have been designated Green Communities and 64 percent of residents live in a Green Community.
