U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat from Connecticut, is calling for major federal investments to modernize Veterans Affair facilities. Last month, Senate Democrats proposed a $10 billion plan to modernize VA facilities over the next 10 years.

Blumenthal says the federal government needs to upgrade VA facilities in an effort to keep up with the high demand of chronic health concerns, preventative medical care, and laboratory testing and physical exams.

A member of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and Armed Services, he also announced his support for Iraq and Afghanistan-era combat veterans who filed a class-action lawsuit in federal court against the Secretary of the Army. They want relief for veterans who developed post-traumatic stress disorder and were less-than-honorably discharged.
