Officials say Vermont is nearing a deal to move about 250 of its inmates from a privately-run prison in Michigan to a public prison in Pennsylvania.
Vermont has been looking for new housing for its Michigan inmates since December, when Geo Group, the company that runs the Michigan prison, sent a letter to Vermont corrections officials saying they were ending their contract in June.

Amy Worden of the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections said Friday a deal will be announced soon, but she declined to share details.

Vermont Corrections Department officials did not immediately return calls Friday seeking comment.

Suzi Wizowaty, a Vermont criminal justice advocate, said the pending move has inmates worried about prison conditions in Pennsylvania.
