The Vermont Air National Guard has begun a two-year construction project to replace some of the taxiways at its base at the Burlington International Airport.
Work on the $38.6 million paving project began Tuesday.
The guard says some of the pavement at the base has remained relatively unchanged since its original construction in the 1950s.
In recent years extensive annual maintenance has been required and the pavement has reached its effective life span.
