MGM is poised to take a role in managing the state-owned convention center in Springfield, Massachusetts, where the Las Vegas-based company is building a casino.

Officials with the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority said final details for a contract with MGM are being worked out.

MGM Springfield President Mike Mathis said his company can use its marketing expertise to bring sports events, concerts, and convention business to the MassMutual Center, located just a block from the casino.

"We really think of this as a campus approach. The MassMutual Center is our convention center and our arena," said Mathis.

MGM brought in chefs from the Bellagio Las Vegas casino to serve lunch to convention center authority board members Thursday and provided a tour of the site where the casino is being built.
