Hunters Being Asked To Help Biologists With Deer Hunt

Incisors
Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department

Hunters participating in Vermont's 16-day rifle season are being asked to report their results in order to help biologists.
Biologists are collecting middle incisor teeth from the November deer season in order to evaluate regional differences in ages and antler characteristics of bucks. The teeth also will help estimate population size, growth rate, health, and mortality rates.

Each tooth will be cross-sectioned to accurately determine the deer's age. The results will be posted on the state's Fish & Wildlife website next spring.

Hunters who don't make it to a biological reporting station are asked to obtain a tooth envelope from their regular reporting agent, remove one middle incisor tooth, and include their name, Conservation ID number and date of kill on the envelope.

The season runs Nov. 12-27.
