The Pomfret businessman who almost beat the incumbent Vermont governor two years ago is heading into an even bigger race this season, hoping to unseat Democratic U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy.
Republican Scott Milne has $83 in the bank and says he's running a grass roots campaign and hoping to appeal to people who are "weary of career politicians."

Leahy is seeking his eighth term and has millions of dollars in the bank. He faces a primary against Cris Ericson.

Two years ago, Milne came within a few thousand votes of beating incumbent Democratic Governor Peter Shumlin.

But retired Middlebury College political science professor Eric Davis says Leahy remains one of Vermont's most popular politicians.
