Dairy Farm Fined For Violating Water Pollution Laws

The Vermont Attorney General’s office has ordered a dairy farm in Brandon to take corrective actions and pay a fine for violations of the state’s water pollution laws and agricultural practice regulations.
In conjunction with the Department of Environmental Conservation and the Agency of Agriculture, the Attorney General investigated violations at a dairy farm owned by William and Robin Hanfield.

The dairy farm was found to have allowed the manure pit to overflow on three separate occasions and flow across a pasture into a tributary of the Neshobe River.

The Rutland Superior Court found the Hanfields liable for violations of three Vermont laws and to pay over $24,000 in fines.
