Vermont U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy has announced that the state and its communities will get $7 million from a round of federal funding for homeland security.
The Democratic lawmaker says the money will go for border protection, law enforcement, and disaster preparedness.

Grants include $3.7 million for planning, organization equipment and training of law enforcement to respond both to terrorism and natural disasters.

There's also more than $3 million for government planning for dealing with disasters and hazards, and a quarter-million dollars for coordinating law enforcement coverage for routes entering Vermont from Canada.
