Lieutenant Governor Phil Scott, a candidate for Vermont's Republican gubernatorial nomination, says he won't make any more negative comments about Donald Trump. But Scott says he sticks by earlier comments, in which he sharply criticized the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
Scott has been making disparaging comments about Trump for months, including criticizing the business mogul for racism, sexism, mocking people with disabilities and attacking journalists for asking tough questions.

Meanwhile, Republican members of the Legislature aren't going out of their way to defend Trump.

At a news conference Thursday to announce endorsements of Scott by 54 of the 59 legislative Republicans, lawmakers were asked to raise their hands if they supported Trump. None did, but several complained that discussing Trump was not the purpose of the news conference.
