Vermont Utility Starts Installing Tesla Home Batteries

Green Mountain Power in Vermont says it is the first utility in the country to start installing the Tesla Powerwall home battery, enabling customers to store power for use during outages.
When the battery is paired with rooftop solar panels, customers can generate and store their own energy.

During a storm or emergency, the battery is able to power essential parts of the home like lights, a refrigerator, and furnace for several hours.
The batteries also would be used during peak energy times, like hot summer days, to cut costs.

Customers can lease one for about $37.50 a month or about $1.25 a day. Customers can also choose to partner with GMP to buy a battery and receive a monthly bill credit.
