Town Meeting representatives in Brattleboro have voted to approve the Select Board's proposal to purchase and renovate the Brattleboro Reformer building.
Town representatives voted 111 to 27 on Saturday to move forward with a plan to turn the newspaper's former home on Black Mountain Road in North Brattleboro into a new site for the town's police department.

While there were concerns about moving the station away from Brattleboro's downtown, Police Chief Mike Fitzgerald says the relocation won't affect service.

Fitzgerald says officers patrol downtown because its good police strategy, not because of the municipal center's location, and that strategy isn't going to change.

Brattleboro officials are seeking to build a new $4.5 million police station on the site. The newspaper will rent a smaller space within the new facility.
