Warm Weather Hurts Consumption Tax Collections In Vermont

Picture of money

Vermont's disappointing ski season so far this winter has not helped state revenues.
Figures released Thursday by the Agency of Administration show that consumption taxes — like the sales tax and gasoline tax — underperformed their targets in January.

The good news for state officials is that those shortfalls have been mostly offset by better-than-projected performance in the personal income and corporate income tax categories.

Overall revenues for January were short of their target by a bit less than 1 percent. For the first seven months of the fiscal year, they've been short of projections by less than a fifth of 1 percent.
