State Says Vermont Clean-Energy Sector Continues To Grow

Statistics compiled by the state of Vermont show its "clean energy economy" grew by 6.2 percent last year.

Governor Peter Shumlin announced the results of the 2015 Vermont Clean Energy Industry Report at a Williston business called Building Energy, which offers services and products such as energy audits, weatherization, solar, construction and heat pumps.

The industry now supports 16,231 jobs in the state and about 1,000 more jobs are expected to be added in the next six months.

Promoting energy efficiency is the largest sector of Vermont's clean energy sector, but renewable energy jobs, such as solar, grew by 12.4 percent in the last year.

The survey was commissioned by the Vermont Public Service Department.
