The Lake Champlain Maritime Museum's schooner Lois McClure is headed to the New York state Canal Corp.'s shipyard at Waterford in Saratoga County for repair work that's expected to take six to eight weeks.

Museum Director Mike Smiles says the Vermont-based replica of a 19th-century Lake Champlain freighter  left Burlington, Vermont, on Monday and is expected to arrive in Waterford later this week.

Waterford's dry dock will be used to overhaul the vessel's hull, a process that involves replacing damaged planking and recaulking seams.

The Lois McClure serves as a floating museum, educating communities in the Northeast on the region's maritime history.
