Vermont School Superintendent Still Awaiting Visa

The Canadian man tapped to lead one of Vermont's largest school systems can't report to work yet because he hasn't secured a visa to work in the United States.

Yaw Obeng of Toronto — selected in February to be school superintendent in Burlington — was slated to report to work July 1 but is still waiting on clearance from U.S. Customs and Immigration Services.

The Burlington Free Press reports that School Board Chair Mark Porter said Obeng's application for an O1 visa was rejected by Immigration Services. Federal officials sent the application back to the school district for further details.

Porter says school board members will continue to work with Obeng to secure a visa, saying he's "worth fighting for."
