U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut toured the delayed Denver VA Medical Center construction site.
A ranking member of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, Blumenthal said Friday the project in Colorado is reflective of the VA’s “national construction scandal.”
“This project is about 425 percent over budget. It will cost eventually $1.73 billion, as compared to the approximately $300 million that was originally planned, and it is more than 80 months behind schedule,” said Blumenthal.
The Democrat said he wants to make sure ongoing planned projects in the Northeast can continue without “needless delay.”
