Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey is proposing regulations that would ban the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors.
Healey proposes to effectively treat e-cigarettes like tobacco products. In addition to banning the sale to minors, free give-a-ways would be prohibited. Massachusetts State Representative Jose Tosado of Springfield said caution is warranted because so little is known about the long term effects of the new product.
" They are billed as a safe alternative to natural tobacco products, but we don't know," he said.
The Springfield Housing Authority recently banned e-cigarettes from all its properties. The housing authority banned tobacco smoking inside and outside its buildings in 2012.
