More Snow Expected In New England

Another snowstorm is coming to southern New England, and Boston could be closer to breaking a 20-year-old season snowfall record.

The National Weather Service says snowfall between 3 and 6 inches is expected over much of southern New England beginning from the west Sunday afternoon and continuing into the overnight.

Some areas from central Connecticut into Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts — including the Hartford, Boston and Providence areas — could get 6 to 8 inches. Those areas are under a winter storm watch.

Boston, with 102 inches officially recorded this year at Logan International Airport, would need about 5.7 inches to break the 1995-96 record of 107.6.

Light snow is expected to begin at midday in southwestern Connecticut, spreading east and intensifying Sunday night. The fast-moving system is expected to wind down by early Monday.
