Case Of Tuberculosis Confirmed In Vermont School Employee

The Vermont Department of Health has confirmed a case of tuberculosis in an employee at Charlotte Central School.

The department says it's working closely with the school to identify and follow up with staff and students who have been in close contact with the person who was ill.

There is no ongoing risk of disease at the school.

Tuberculosis is an infectious bacterial disease that usually affects the lungs. It can be spread through the air when a person who is ill with TB coughs or sneezes.

The department says TB does not spread as easily as measles, whooping cough or the flu. It usually requires close contact over a longer period of time with the ill person.
